Liturgical Ministries

Thank you for joining us for worship! Your full participation at Mass helps create a vibrant and sacred celebration of our Lord's Day. We are excited you are interested in getting involved as a liturgical minister. Your assistance in these roles helps to create a welcoming, family like atmosphere to our parish and enhances our worship. Below you will find a brief description of the particular liturgical ministries available and who to contact for further information or to sign up.

  • Music

"He who sings prays twice. -St. Augustine

The music ministry at Mary, Mother of the Church is an essential element of our vibrant worship. There are many opportunities for you to share your gifts and talents with your parish family.

    • Cantors - lead the assembly in singing.
    • New Life Choir - sings from the choir loft for all funerals. Additionally, they sing at two Sunday Masses during the school year. They rehearse once per month, typically on a weekday morning.
    • Sunday Choir - sings from the choir loft at two Sunday Masses each month during the school year and on other special occasions. They rehearse weekly on Tuesday evenings.
    • Small Group Ensembles - sing from the altar. These groups may be a small mix of vocalists and instrumentalists, a men’s group, or other combination.
    • Musicians - our Sunday Choir, Small Group Ensembles, and New Life Choir welcome the addition of instrumentalists.

Please contact our Director of Sacred Music to join.

  • Greeter

"For I was…a stranger, and you welcomed me" (Matthew 25:35).

As a parish family with Christ as the center of our lives, we seek to welcome you into our family home. Adults and students in grades 7-12 are encouraged to participate in this ministry. The role of a greeter is to be the friendly face that meets you at the front door, the helping hand that finds you a book for your little one, and the knowledgeable friend who helps you locate the restroom. Additionally, a greeter helps with the offertory collection and handing out bulletins after Mass.

If you would like to join our team of greeters, please contact our parish office.

  • Gift Bearer

"When you come into the land which I am giving you, and reap its harvest, you shall bring the first sheaf of your harvest to the priest" (Leviticus 23:10).

During the offertory, we bring forward the gifts of bread, wine, and alms. All members of the parish can participate in this particular ministry. This ministry is especially suited to families with young children.

If you are interested in participating in this ministry, please contact our parish office.

  • Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion

"Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him. Just as the living Father sent me and I have life because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on me will have life because of me" (John 6:54-57).

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion distribute the Holy Eucharist to members of our parish family. They may also bring the Holy Eucharist to the homebound or those in nursing homes.

Training is required for this liturgical role. Please contact the parish office to be included in the next training session.

  • Hospitality

“Do not neglect hospitality, for through it some have unknowingly entertained angels” (Hebrews 13:2).

The hospitality ministry team provides treats, warm coffee, and juice with a welcoming smile to our parish family and guests after the 8 am and 10 am Sunday Masses. Typically, 1-2 families join together to provide the treats and juice. The parish provides coffee and service ware.

If you are interested in participating in this ministry, please contact our parish office.

  • Lectors

"The Lord GOD has given me a well-trained tongue, That I might know how to answer the weary a word that will waken them" (Isaiah 50:4)

Lectors are laypeople who proclaim the first and second readings. Additionally, they may read the announcements and the prayers of petition at our Masses and Communion Services.

Training is required for this liturgical role; please contact the parish office to get started.

  • Sacristan

"When the day of the feast of Unleavened Bread arrived, the day for sacrificing the Passover lamb, he sent out Peter and John, instructing them, 'Go and make preparations for us to eat the Passover''(Luke 22:7-8).

Sacristans are vital to our vibrant worship. They dutifully care for and prepare the sacristy, the church, and their contents, including vessels, books, vestments, holy water, candles, plants and flowers, and incense. The Sacristan's job is to see that all is in place before the Mass begins.

Sacristans typically arrive 20-30 minutes before Mass for set-up and stay after Mass for approximately 30 minutes to clean vessels, store items, tidy up the church, and lock doors. Individual training is provided.

If you want to participate in this ministry, please contact our parish office.

  • Altar Server

"Whoever serves me must follow me, and where I am, there also will my servant be. The Father will honor whoever serves me" (John 12:26).

Altar Servers assist the priest and deacon throughout the weekend Masses. This ministry is open to girls and boys who have completed 5th grade.

Additionally, adults may be trained as Funeral Mass Servers.

Training is required for this ministry. Please contact the parish office to be placed on the list for the next training session.

  • Live Streamer

"Let us hold unwaveringly to our confession that gives us hope, for he who made the promise is trustworthy. We must consider how to rouse one another to love and good works. We should not stay away from our assembly, as is the custom of some, but encourage one another, and this all the more as you see the day drawing near" (Hebrews 10: 23-25).

We live stream Masses, funerals, baptisms, weddings, and other events in our church to our YouTube channel
