MMOC does not have a social justice committee per se. However, several groups and individuals within the parish work to meet needs within our community. Here are just some examples:
We prepare and deliver food, as our Lord directs us in Matthew 25: 35-40. Details are on our Blog.
Sr. Kathy Stuttgen is a trained and dedicated advocate for our elders.
We have deep ties to A Place of Grace, the Catholic Worker House in La Crosse, and we often collect cash or food for POG.
We have deep ties to Casa Hogar Juan Pablo II, an orphanage in Peru.
Each December, parishioners are very generous to distressed local families through our "Angel Tree" program.
Jail Ministry
St. Dysmas➚ is also known as "the good thief on the cross" and it is under his name that MMOC supports a jail ministry. There are some red, plastic bins in the Cry Room. These bins are to hold items donated for those in our jails here in La Crosse. Specific requests include: pencils, pads of lined paper, stamps, plain legal/letter size envelopes, playing cards, blank greeting cards, paperback books (no romance novels please), paperback bibles, recent appropriate magazines (especially automotive or outdoors). Items can be left in the red bins and will be delivered to the jail ministry.
